Already a month since our last newsletter & so much has happened in a few short weeks.
The UK festival scene has worked incredibly hard to revive the beating heart of our creative culture, in light of poor ticket sales and cancelled festivals and events from recent years.
Major events including Boomtown, Download and We Out Here sold strongly this summer, while festivals are increasingly using payment plans, premium camping, wellness offerings and luxury experiences to encourage audience spending on site.
Spotify introduced Playlist Notes, allowing its editorial playlist teams to explain why particular tracks were selected. Editors can now attach written context to songs on major playlists including Today’s Top Hits and RapCaviar, while Spotify is also giving playlist editors their own public profiles.
The AI debate has moved into the charts. Australia’s ARIA announced that fully AI-generated tracks will no longer be eligible for its official charts or awards, following controversy around an AI-assisted version of Madonna’s Like a Prayer reaching the Australian charts.
Spotify, however, is going in a slightly different direction (what else is new), and is now working with rights-holders on AI-powered fan-made covers and remixes, allowing fans to manipulate participating artists’ music within a licensed framework.
The landscape is shifting at a constant and seemingly uncontrollable pace, but we’ll always do our best to keep you updated and involved in the conversation.
