Residing in Miami, Julz The Great defines her sound as garage rock with a twist of country, which in hindsight fits the melody and independence of Turn The Other Way pretty perfectly.
For me, the song feels like a chaotic and colourful fusion of influences ranging from RHCP, Incubus and Skunk Anansie, to something like Ani DiFranco on occasion. It’s a raw indie rock and funk set-up, guided by a slick and soulful voice that was born to perform in this way, and yet despite the fluidity and unpredictability of the setup, the song is so well written – it consistently resolves back to this title and hoo; a satisfying earworm that helps firmly cement this amidst the long-term playlist contenders of 2026.
