Conceptually focused but musically brief, a driven encapsulation of surviving the apocalypse, striped with humour and loaded with rebellion, depth, and distinct riffs. Red Head Redemption make fine use of a limited timeframe, with the alternative rock songs of their EP Sunny With A Chance of Fallout.
Armageddon Beach Party is our first introduction to the band, a likeable balance of soaring power chords, pop-punk riffs, dramatic drum sections and female vocals, all united amidst a creative structure that keeps things theatrical and interesting, as Red Head Redemption explore the scenes of this story.
The opening track is over five minutes long, and at the halfway mark, we switch to something like surf rock in tempo, softness and melody, and the band manage to move from likable to awesome within the walls of a single track.
The music on this project works its magic impressively, original takes and playful creativity, soundscapes that refuse to hold on to a single expectation, so you can let the music play and feel refreshed, reminded that there is plenty of new sound left to hear. Then as you revisit the EP, or dig a little deeper, the band offer a clear thread of conceptual intention, and even add one last twist of redirection, with their impassioned rock cover of the mighty Jolene at the end.
A fine collection of songs, from a band whose love for the process and fearless conviction on the stage meets with a brilliant ear for effective melodic and intense balancing throughout an ever-changing landscape of music.
