Exploring the value of finding your own pathway in life, inspired by real-time experiences and relationships encountered during a decade of global travel, Any Other Way, by LA songwriter Dolce Wang, is an album noting equal hints of influence from the likes of acoustic indie pop and classic songwriters from the sixties.
The vocal sound is lightly doubled, delicate and melodic in a kind of dream pop fashion, almost trip hop fashion, and the set-up is organic and gentle to match, though sometimes with a certain hopeful brightness; to reinforce the positive intentions of songs like Any Other Way, Find Your Smile, and Be Alive.
Dolce Wang quite cleverly intertwines melancholy and optimism throughout this album, a subtle sadness countered by a subtle level of excitement from one song to the next. This represents both the limitless and uncertain qualities of traveling really well, in my view.
If you’re a fan of acoustic pop, dream pop, indie songwriter freedom and the like, this project is both an intimate and inclusive pleasure to fall into.
