One of the most catchy and classic indie rock songs to cross our path this summer so far, YCHABODS deliver an earworm of anthem, in the form of the brilliant Time Traveller – a storytelling gem of a track, which introduces the band’s new four-song EP Message Through Meadows on a defiant high.
Promising stories of contemplation regarding influence, authority, and personal agency, Message Through Meadows is clearly songwriting-driven. The band are not flashy nor attention grabbing in their image or audio demeanour, they let the music speak honestly on each concept and feeling, and this is what lets these four songs feel so moving and emotionally memorable.
Good Times follows the mighty Time Traveller with perhaps an even more impactful highlight track, a little more distortion and volume, another huge chorus, and a cleverly enchanting fusion of implied positivity and something euphoric yet uncertain. The lyrics are short but striking, and the voice and music seem perfectly built around that to let the words and ideas sink in.
