Channelling rock sub-genres from throughout the ages, but leading with Sarah Beth Rose on gentle to gritty vocals, along with a clear sense of character and unrelenting passion and pace, Born To Break Even has the anthemic, engaging qualities of bands like Green Day, The Distillers and Lagwagon, but also weaves in something a little more sixties rock and roll in the verses and the solo breakdown.
The image of Doghouse Rose conjures up a kind of Americana, alternative culture and carefree self-expression, or counters the sweetness of the rose with the downbeat and dirty implications of the Doghouse, and the music seems perfectly crafted around that juxtaposition of traits.
