Revolvers True Love

-

The UK’s own Revolvers have hit the mark beautifully with this latest single. True Love is a stunner, nostalgically rooted in the warmth of classic indie rock, but also glowing with its own sense of honesty and emotion; something that pours through thanks to heartfelt and quickly impressive songwriting.

This is something of a classic anthem, the sort that brings people together for the unique perspective and the riffs and accessible vocals alike. Everything is here that needs to be, those vocals feel familiar yet strong, gritty and fresh enough to appeal in a new way, the guitar work is somewhat humble yet perfectly effective, and the band’s shared passion for and unity within the performance lets the whole thing stand all the more tall.

What really gives this song its edge, in addition to genuinely enjoyable, refreshing songwriting, is the structure and the thoughtful nature of the set-up. Songwriting is where so many bands fall short – the musicianship is there, the skill and the energy, but all too often the creative expression seems to mean a little less than you want it to. In this case, True Love feels relatable yet unique – these words have never quite connected in such a way, and there’s a definite streak of recognisable freshness in that hook; true love never makes it to midnight.

Great songwriting is likely what will take this band further and further within today’s music world. I look forward to hearing more and indeed to catching a live show sometime soon. 2019 will be a big year for rock music.
