Led by an acoustic ukulele strum, backed by home-made visuals depicting the elusive artist himself (and his cat) blissfully calm and committed to the warmth of the moment, Candle is the latest single from the genre-free creative, and it’s a short yet striking, melodically pure and lyrically poetic celebration of the beauty of life.
From the new EP The Challenger, Candle explores the topic of being at peace within yourself – feeling no doubt in your heart and having a stable and serene bond with your own spirit. The song emerges in the week leading up to the due-date of Zachary’s new daughter Penelope, and that joy, love, and gratitude simply radiates from every aspect of the performance.
Stylistically inspired by Johnny Cash, as well as by the anime shows Naruto and Hajime No Ippo, Candle as ever works with simplicity and purpose, to highlight the distinct and fairly unrivalled originality of the Zachary Campos approach to modern music.
In its own right, the song is naturally catchy, intimate and genuine in its hopeful melody and appreciative lyrics. It’s a stripped-back performance, uninhibited by effects or filler, simply a songwriter and a human connecting on a pure and realistic level.
