Driving with precisely the right fusion of nostalgia and 2020 to connect, Hands Up from artist and songwriter Yurby is a festival-ready, emotive and reflective alt-pop anthem – and it’s a total dream to listen through.
Introducing a unique fusion of genres, a dash of Morcheeba alongside a reggae rhythm and a playful production style in general, the single creates an engaging mood from the offset, and proceeds to further that with an ever-changing arena of detail and depth.
Yurby’s vocal line and lyrical backbone are incredibly well united with the soundscape every step of the way, so not only is the music a pleasure to vibe to, but the writing and delivery provoke a deeper level of thought and feeling that’s all the more valuable.
A touch of that Sia-esque, Alanis rasp, a smooth layer of soul, and a vocal that’s clearly capable of meandering its way through any and all melodies, Yurby raises the bar with effortless grace.
Hands Up is a beautiful track, with a timeless air of confidence and poetic consideration about it. I look forward to catching a live show from Yurby as and when the time allows.
