Introducing the first English release from Una Lengua Infinita. Antithesis of war is a direct artistic response to the Russian attack on Ukraine, and features long-time collaborator and Ukrainian pianist Anastasia Zdvizhkova, to evocatively reflect upon the devastation not only of life but in the inability to practice music.
As per the implications of its title, Antithesis of war is an anti-war single that focuses more on longing for peace in the face of moral dilemma when defending against violent enemies. The juxtaposition is represented boldly through this multi-layered organic landscape – through the evolution from acoustic guitar and voice, to a wholly impassioned and colourful groove and set-up.
The completed arrangement features the united talents and passions of a plethora of musicians, and emerges complete with a set of striking visuals combining live performance and historical clips of World War’s and the true pain and suffering of war in general.
Acoustic fingerstyle and vocal simplicity create an intimate space at first – confronting yet smooth and soulful vocals, from Nigerian artist Christian Osazee Owanthiarokpa, reflect poetically and personally on the disconnect between nature and evil; “an ocean of greed” just one example of the references and metaphors that help carve out this piercing ode to the reality of our time.
“You and I, ready to die for peace” resounds at the end of this hypnotic and heartfelt, harrowing yet beautiful journey. Meanwhile we’re presented with a unique fusion of Jazz, Soul, Classical, Folk and World music, as Antithesis of war gathers haunting but hopeful momentum.
