Euphoric sound-design of a mellow yet wholly immersive nature precedes the devotedly concerned, poetic, historically contextual but hopeful new single from Troy Remedy.
Featuring delicate melodies from a secondary vocalist, What The Future Will Hold initially seems to blend timeless Pop and Trip Hop qualities – a dreamy arrangement with a trap rhythm and enchanting voice guiding us through these scenes that are ‘so far from home’. Before long, however, Troy’s rap verse injects a clear level of intelligent contemplations and gripping bars.
The energy remains mellow and reflective, but there’s an edge of intensity and passion to the tone – it’s a poignant, purposeful delivery, and the smart, sharp nature of these observations on both the self and the world at large undoubtedly get the listener pondering it all with equal conviction.
Furthering its reach throughout a near four-minute mix, What The Future Will Hold is beautiful and heartbreaking all at once. Troy has fused the familiarity of the set-up and chorus with a fearlessly complex outpouring of honest ideas and details. The result is something that feels both mainstream-ready and alternative enough to hold that independent and uninhibited twist of identity.
Really well done, a song that gifts a little more insight and impressive skill with each revisit. A worthy and similarly considerate follow-up to last year’s to Days Are Numbered.
