UK songwriter Stephen McCafferty not only writes songs that connect and captivate, but achieves a fine use of contrast structurally along the way. The single Someday Somehow is a fine example of that skilful approach, an explosive rock introduction quickly dropping out for a much more intimate and stripped-back verse vocal.
The song is poetic and vulnerable, with short lines that seem vague but poignant in both their expressions and the vocal tone for delivery. Stephen’s voice is accessible but undoubtedly capable, a relatable sound that smoothly reaches between these extremes of delicacy and weight, as per the changing stages of the story, and all the while, the music provides the perfect backdrop and support for that journey.
The guitars sound beautiful, the hook is mighty, and there’s no doubt at all that Someday Somehow would hold attention faultlessly in the live setting. The passion and energy of the performance is superb, and the song is a timeless must for any and all pop-rock or singer-songwriter playlists right now.
