Great vibes, ready and waiting to lift your mood – Stefan Schulzki collaborates with singer Beatrice Ottmann for this spacious and creative take on contemporary reggae and pop.
Leading with a likable, familiar rhythm and plenty of artistic yet minimalist, accessible sound-play, My Lovely High Head offers up an equally accessible vocal lead, gentle and relatable in tone and delivery, and this allows the poetic, observational nature of the lyrics to connect in a genuine way.
Coming in at an impressive four minutes twenty-three, the single rides the wave of its own creative integrity in an uninhibited fashion. At around the half-way point, we find ourselves completely immersed in these changing stages, a now electronically-sourced, distorted and briefly dark realm inspires a sense of movement and energy. It’s temporary of course, the earlier rhythms and delicacy trickle back through, and the voice calms back down – all of which is perfectly in keeping with the freedom of the release, and indeed the underlying concept.
A fascinating and refreshing single, with a hint of Zero 7 to the hook, but an otherwise genre-fusing, creatively fearless aura.
