An ever-thoughtful Shaney Poo returns with a musically brilliant new single that tackles the topics of faith, uncertainty and purpose.
Beautifully poetic from the outset, with short lines that question the listener directly in terms of those days we all encounter that feel difficult, impossible even to navigate through. The verses chug along well as this industrial and mildly tribal rhythm and soundscape backs them up, right before things brighten and resolve for the hook.
Undoubtedly a songwriter paving his own way, time and time again, Shaney Poo excels himself with this deeply creative single. Outwardly declaring a state of lostness and longing, Runaway Faith ultimately progresses from melancholy to optimism – asking for help, for unity, inviting a certain other into the process.
Both lyrically and musically, Runaway Faith offers a commendable level of vulnerability and passion. The sound is incredibly unique, recognisable for the fusion of retro bass and lighter vocal melodies – there’s even a rap verse just to mix things up further during the latter half. And at five-plus minutes in length, there’s plenty of room for this change in dynamic to connect.
Weave in a subsequent funky guitar solo and some reverb-kissed quiet for contemplation, and the whole thing expresses its underlying intentions faultlessly, and that’s before we even get to the stunning visuals that accompany the release. The official short movie for Runaway Faith captivates on a completely new level. Shaney Poo raises the bar on all fronts.
