Fiercely unique industrial metal pours through with haunting intensity, as SexPraha deliver their latest five-track EP Conflict.
Initially blending a certain cinematic storyline of neo-classical tones, Night Driver opens things up with a quick introduction to the industrial rhythmic weight and drum and bass presence of the EP. We get distant operatic vocals, eerie strings, heavy rhythmic hits, all united across a creatively evolving soundscape, and the project is off to an intoxicating start.
In keeping with the SexPraha band name, tracks like Addiction and Wild Passion follow on to further the intrigue and implied desire, but also hold close to this industrial metal overtone that is these heavy organic drum-lines and the haunting cinematic backdrops.
The style is unmistakable now, but the composition of Addiction achieves its own sense of contrast and character, juxtaposing moments of quiet contemplation with those of sheer immensity and mania.
Wild Passion then takes things in a more metal-esque direction with its distortion and programmed roar, an unsettling late-night vibe that feels apt to fill the space amidst some horror-core genre of media, whilst presenting another impressive long-form melody to make sure things are rooted and purposeful.
Next we get the panning and immersive details of Radiation, further intrigue and rising anticipation, something like a world-music vocal choir countered by sheer distortion and rhythmic hits of fearless vigour. And to follow, The Survivor wraps things up as if the closing chapter of some epic cinematic story. The intensity grows throughout, the strings and rhythms once more distinct but fitting, offering a final chase scene that’s impossible to ignore or escape from.
SexPraha carve out their own artistic lane with this project and style, and the music feels somewhat genre-less, meaning it takes value through intention and expression above all else, and as such, the soundscapes within are mysterious but satisfying as they boldly fill the room.
