Scatterbrained. Flow

-

Another easily memorable band name and, more importantly, another brilliantly striking, recognizable original tune. Scatterbrained. aim high and hit the mark with their superb new single Flow.

Kicking in with a sort of Incubus-esque fusion of funk and emotive, poetic lyricism, Flow is a stylish and refreshingly organic pop-rock song that marches to the beat of its own drum.

Featuring a unique structure that allows the song to move from mid-energy to mellow, before exploding into its high-octane peak, Flow exemplifies the concept implied by its title in every way. It takes close to two minutes to even fully explore what appears to be the song’s hook, a moment that feels like a whole other song in itself – another common Incubus quality from back in the day.

What’s also great about this release is that the band utilize the musical aspects as much so as the vocal. The leading riff and bass progression soon becomes recognizable, the mood set by the instrumental as enticing and enjoyable as the completed song, and that’s a fine thing to achieve – particularly when it comes to setting the mood or offering a live show to remember.

The structure continues to make and break its own rules, the latter half delving fully into the party scene – complete with cinematic spoken word and the clear sound of the crowd. Then we resolve back to the melody and set-up, the passion and enthusiasm of the singer and indeed every musician united on this journey. This latter half brings in a welcomed hit of RHCP, though the song in its entirety effectively furthers the natural reach of an original, engaging Scatterbrained. as their own impressive thing.

A bright and bold hit of optimism and positive energy. Get the party started with this one.
