Paul Maged World War Infinity

-

New York City alt-rock legend Paul Maged returns to grace the airwaves this season, with a gritty progressive-rock epic that’s unique in both story and sound.

With soaring distorted guitars and a classic, theatrical rock build up melodically, World War Infinity explores and celebrates the concept at hand, relaying a story and anthem designed to incite the need for revolution.

The single features short lines of poetic imagery and references both traditional and bold, and all the while, the surrounding arrangement is impressively complex – the tempo shifting throughout, the layers united in this choir-like vocal rise as things approach an intense peak.

It’s an intriguing song, evolving towards an immense prog-rock crescendo during its final third – complete with a soulful and mighty guitar solo.

As a follow-on from the 2023 EP Crossroads, World War Infinity is performatively a huge moment for Paul Maged, and unites his inherent creativity and energy with a story and sentiment that’s both nostalgic and poignant.

The song feels like a joyous celebration, despite the darkness of its verses and title, and that playful juxtaposition between optimism and lostness is fascinating, and a huge part of what gives the track such a vast and mysterious aura.

A song for the people, World War Infinity reacts to the authoritarianism that threatens our freedom, and reflects upon the ongoing destruction of progress – the ruling class’s greed and thirst for power. It’s a song of despair, but it’s rooted in hope, and that positive angle is ultimately what resounds, as we roll through these hugely impassioned moments of all-together-now chorus.
