OHNomad The Awakening (Feat. Chi-Jo Lee)

-

Composer Owens Huang (OHNomad) and solo-pianist Chi-Jo Lee capture a brilliant sense of evolution from delicacy to euphoric energy, with the changing pace and presence of an authentically original classical work The Awakening.

Instantly presenting with the raw purity of a live piano performance, complete with the weight of the keys and the natural reverb from the pedals, The Awakening is quick to intrigue for its sense of melodic originality. We progress through almost 4.5 minutes of music, an explosive mid-section injecting sheer power and tempo and fullness, in between two halves that feel both united in their tuneful direction, and unconfined by the walls of expectation.

Inspired by the concept of a soul venturing into a hypnotic journey, “drifting seamlessly between realms of consciousness and unconsciousness”, The Awakening offers hints of world-music melodic fragments, interwoven alongside a distinct and purposeful leading melody.

It’s a journey by all accounts, and the changing intensity is quite incredible for encapsulating this confrontation with the self from another universe – the familiar and the unknown standing face to face.

A solo piano piece that genuinely captivates, The Awakening is the first of an upcoming eight-movement suite from Owens Huang (OHNomad). The composition is performed here by pianist Chi-Jo Lee, and was recorded at Allegro Recordings, by Grammy-winning engineer Matthew Snyder.
