Blending the familiar building blocks of space and synth, keys and melodies amidst a light and intermittent rhythm, with a long-form vocal style reminiscent of Vanessa Carlton and other thoughtful singer-songwriters, Are You Lost brings in a subtle dance energy for its hook, and contrasts this with the softer, stripped-back moments found elsewhere.
The back and forth dynamic works beautifully, the voice is accessible and the overall groove and tune catchy enough to hit with memorable impact; whilst maintaining a reflective kind of humanity and purpose at the center of it all.
Really nicely crafted and performed, a pleasure to let play this summer – with a twist of emotive intention. Hopefully NIKKI has plenty more music in the pipeline.
