Naty Giachino Just a Drummer

-

Uruguayan-British songwriter, drummer and singer Naty Giachino has contributed her talents to a multitude of projects in her years on the scene. The experienced performer and global collaborator began releasing her own solo works just last year, and the result is the uniquely eclectic yet vocally grounded and distinct album Just A Drummer.

From the opening rock energy and pace of L.A. Sands, the storytelling and organic musicianship of the album stands tall, and as we shift into the soothing acoustic tones of The Whole Town Was Asleep, an enchanting early highlight, eclecticism is a clear strength. So too is this heartfelt writing approach, and the unmistakable tone and timbre of Naty’s voice.

The mood softens further still for the nearly-whispered delicacy of a softly finger-picked On a Simple Day – the blues groove exchanged for a folk sentiment and style, and another story quietly captivating. Then we rise up slightly for the distorted patterns and rather anthemic melodic and lyrical highlight that is Plastic Walls.

Eleven songs in full make up the album Just a Drummer, a fusion of languages and styles, with highlights including the Santana-esque soulful embrace of Libros Sin Tapas, and the heavier rock stomp and darker vocal progression of Chelsea Girls.

The equally talented Alex Scarfe plays guitar and bass throughout this project, and from hard-rock tendencies to divine folk intimacy, the completed repertoire shines a powerful light on the musical diversity and talent of songwriter and established musician Naty Giachino. A fresh collection of songs that are timelessly easy to escape into.
