Mimi Oz - In The Water - Stereo Stickman

Mimi Oz In The Water

-

Stunningly delicate, soulful vocals are met by the warming embrace of a full-band country-folk set-up for this engaging, addictive new single from Mimi Oz.

An easy favourite from the week so far, In The Water not only ticks a lot of boxes stylistically – particularly given the lack of live music in our lives this past year – but it offers up a strength of song-writing, a conceptual depth and honesty, that’s been all but missing from much of modern music lately.

The story-telling here is superb, as is the structure and build-up of the entire arrangement. The details draw you in as these quiet moments let the vocal really connect for its intimacy, then we get the sudden, infectiously hooky brightness as things peak – a moment of simple, poetic resolve and repeat – which brings a stylish and fairly timeless hit of melodic satisfaction that’s sure to keep listeners coming back for more.

Beautifully crafted, way ahead of its peers in terms of the depth and sheer passion and skill combined throughout this post-four-minute audio experience. The balance between accessible, familiar patterns, and that which feels genuinely refreshing, has been faultlessly captured.

Gorgeous – well worth a listen at volume this season.
