Fresh from the EP Jupiter, producer and artist Matril showcases a uniquely ambient and creative approach to making original music; with this beautifully organic yet contemporary new single.
High is a gorgeous piece of music and writing, captured beautifully. On the surface, it feels like an intimate, even near-acoustic performance – the delicacy and space, the thoughtful lyrics, the vocal presentation. In reality though, there are more than a few elements of EDM and electronic sound design at work here, and for the resulting piece to have such a natural and authentic aura speaks volumes on behalf of the skill of the producer.
The writing, the openness and vulnerability of the song, the optimism of the riffs and the chord progression in unison with the very concept of the high – all of this is united under the final mood of the music. The energy varies throughout, in keeping with the changing lyrics, and though this evolution is subtle, it works well to keep things moving; to keep you interested, and to keep a level of colour and creativity at the heart of the journey.
Really nicely done, a summer dance track broken down to the bare essentials in a professional and immersive manner. The entire Jupiter EP is easily one worth spending a little time with. Honest writing, skillful, intricate production, and an overall sound that embraces and engages with its audience.
