Marlock - Run - Stereo Stickman

Marlock Run

-

Guitarist and songwriter Marlock emerges this summer with a softly soulful, smooth yet emotionally gritty new single, which rises up from delicacy to brightness in a brilliantly powerful way.

What begins as something of a soul-folk, acoustic offering, soon kicks in as an indie-pop anthem with lashings of passion and strength. The lyrics are reinforced thanks to this progression, and Marlock’s performance carries the changing weight of the delivery with ease.

A natural performer, with just enough personality in his tone and style to give the sound a definite thread of identity, Marlock shines beautifully on this single. His performance and indeed the way he has crafted the single make you want to pay close attention to the lyrics – a contrary effect to that of many pop songs that leave you simply happy to let them play in the background.

The build-up here is awesome, dramatic and satisfying as the hook drops in, and the switch from scene-setting verses to the more vague, poetic and inclusive nature of the hook, makes it all the more effective. Throw in a superb hit of electric guitar solo during the final quarter, and the entire set-up begs for you to witness it in a live setting.

Great songwriting, a single that swiftly moves from good to great in a memorable, impressive fashion. Hopefully we can look forward to a set from Marlock on many a festival stage as and when the time returns.
