Love the Magician Breeding

-

Retro-electronic sound-play follows colourful keys that rise and fall, as we’re welcomed by the implied security of a hopeful production. Love the Magician focuses on unity and possibility, by way of scornful and robotic lyrical outpourings, which openly reflect upon the clear gaps and obstacles in societal connection.

Musically bright but conceptually dark, the topical intentions of Breeding are naturally provocative, and as we move from this spoken drone of a verse into the optimism and melody of the hook, the song increasingly tightens its grip and appeal.

Boldly distinct and recognisable in being so, the fluidity and groove of Breeding is easy to let play, and while the voice is mildly jarring in its confrontation, this post-punk essence and the fearless listing of contemporary issues, along with the relevant resolve and solution suggested during the brighter moments, all makes for a brilliantly unmistakable and unignorably uplifting original track.

We even get something like a pipe solo during the latter half, a meandering adlib melody to break up the weight of contemplation, and to again draw focus to the hopeful undertones and intentions of the work.

“Some think it’s just ignorance or individual prejudice, But exploitation creates social war, Slavery, genocide, then red lining Desperation and competition for jobs. Divided and ruled, out come the fascist mobs.”

With artwork showcasing the “El banquete de los ricos” (The Banquet of the Rich) painting by José Clemente Orozco, Breeding emerges as both a post-punk opposition to division, as well as a rightfully colourful celebration of diversity and creative freedom.

Fearlessly original but also with the essential trait of a catchy, snappy hook, Breeding is a fine introduction to an artist whose upcoming album is undoubtedly one worth delving into.

Joyful music, meaningful writing, unpredictable artistic twists – entertainment and inspiration carefully intertwined.
