The refreshingly grounded sound of real guitars, drums and vocals – Germany’s Level-M delivers a quickly slick and stylish rock groove, with a smooth vocal melody and quirky, provocative lyrics.
Noting a sort of eighties rock drama and depth to the sound, Crazy Dreams is both catchy and unorthodox, and it’s that fine balancing of qualities that lets the music fill the space with such atmospheric charm and addictively tuneful appeal.
Mike Leverenz is the artist behind Level-M, a Berlin-based creative with an affinity for profound lyrical musings and catchy, hooky arrangements. In this case, the single Crazy Dreams is instantly likeable, and becomes all the more interesting and unusual as things roll along.
Setting a strong vibe from the outset, the clarity of the mix here – the capture of the live drums, bass and guitars – is supreme, naturally prompting you to crank up the volume as things begin. Then to top that off, the story and vocals drive with character and intrigue, offering something completely new, yet also strangely relatable at times, and with a massive hook crescendo to complete the process.
This feels like a slept-on Bowie hit in some ways, but more relevantly, it’s a timeless and engaging introduction to all things Level-M.
