In continuing to embrace the organic power and soulful presence of instrumental, ‘unplugged’ music, it becomes all the more clear how important it is to find a way to differentiate yourself creatively – without sacrificing the warmth and wonder of what great music truly is. In my view, cinematic and classical composer JX Levinson has achieved exactly that, with the changing pace and uplifting beauty of an impressively unique Weight Of The Hours.
Pairing strings and piano, this composition effectively meanders from melancholic to hopeful, almost without notice. There are moments of extreme sadness, and then suddenly, those of extreme euphoria and joy. That seamless transitioning is subtle but stunning, and engages you all the more strongly.
JX showcases a fine ability to play and compose, but this work is not purely an instance of showing off, it’s a purposeful audio journey, and it feels genuine, real, and captivating. The title rings out in your mind, as the music takes you through the stages and personal implications; the true Weight Of The Hours.
