Jordan 7 & the Luck Dragons Every Moment

-

Driven by a simple desire to inspire positivity and optimism in a world so often desperate to portray the worst, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jordan 7 writes and releases indie rock arrangements and tracks, which openly embrace living in the moment and appreciating the beauty and wonder of the world.

Armed with a growing collection of original songs, the first EP to emerge is a six-track playlist that conceptually intertwines these qualities of brightness and uplift. We’re introduced to a relatable voice, raspy to warbled as old school rock and roll tints the outer edges of a contemplative singer and songwriter.

Every Moment opens things up, devoting its sentiments to inspiring listeners to be themselves and celebrate their own uniqueness. It’s an upbeat pop-rock to indie arrangement, and kicks off the six tracks of the current project with warmth and optimism. The hook is completely different to the verses, which is simple to say, but quite striking in this case – a different pace, different vibe, different performance style; a huge moment that aptly brings the celebration and confidence to the concept.

Musically the repertoire is eclectic by nature, the switch to Zephyr Girl instantly leading with a single strum of a guitar and a sort of Americana-esque, reverb-drenched vocal. Things build, the drama of the drumline injects energy, a choir of voices thickens the resolving lines, and all the while these poetic images and the growing boldness of the set-up delivers a personal yet accessible ode to a special kind of woman.

Style shifts again for Solid Ground, a sultry to blues-rock cinematic stomp of a track, with quieter vocals nearly whispering a story of overcoming the weaker or darker parts of our nature. This track depicts the true energy and versatility of Jordan 7 and the Luck Dragons, offering a classic rock and roll presence that would shine well in the stage setting.

We then move into the acoustic brightness and calm of A New Morning, a simple yet likable song, a self-defined ‘anthem of hope’, again captured with the live organic set-up authentically at the forefront. After this, high-octane guitar riffs and distortion raise the roof once more, for the up-tempo timeless rock and roll hit Come Back, Jenny. Once again, the choir of voices, the musical unity, the energy, all showcases a band who would put on a wild and wonderful live show.

Wrapping things up is a definite highlight, a poetic and introspective song, with a melancholic but addictive melody and humanity at its core. Silent River has the feel of a Pink Floyd track on occasion, at other times leaning more towards the contemporary soft rock bands of recent decades. Then for the hook, we veer towards a kind of more country-pop chorus of positivity and calm – a crescendo represented both melodically and lyrically.

Jordan 7 maintains his integrity and assurance as an indie act, holding close to his values regardless of the tempo or style of each song, and as such, there are threads of identity, in voice, lyric and intention, that ring loud throughout his catalogue. It will be a pleasure to hear where else the music takes him as the new project emerges later this year.
