Introducing a huge rock arrangement and song, from a vocalist and songwriter with a clear twist of character and depth to his approach. US artist Jeremy Serwer puts in a sensational performance, throughout the creative highs and lows of his immense rock anthem Watch Your Myself.
Stylistically we’re in a kind of long-form, tremolo-rasp realm, akin to the likes of Pearl Jam, but there’s also something quite colourful and captivating to the verses, in between heavy drops to the hook. Jeremy Serwer manages to intrigue and entertain all at once, delivering a powerful story, and a stunning performance, alongside a nostalgic distorted arena of rock guitars, bass and drums.
Watch Your Myself is loaded with imagery and darkness, self-reflection and scorn, but is also vocally distinct – impressively soulful, not limited to the basic patterns or melodies, as with much of modern rock. It’s an emotional hit of escapism when listened to at volume, and there’s even a mellow moment of calm for the guitar solo – another subtle redirection from the expected format.
Fantastic vocals and songwriting, a personal favourite from this season, and I look forward to listening to the rest of Serwer’s repertoire.
