Dissonance and delicacy present a chaos of contemplation and calm united – IGSHORT introduces an introspective musicality and style, with the heavy fuzz and whispered vocal musings of T2TY.
Initially intriguing for its fragments of fuzz and static underpinning a dreamy, distant and occasionally whispered vocal, T2TY is difficult to decipher lyrically, and pours through not unlike a stream of consciousness – diverse in both topic and vocal style across almost four minutes of music.
At the half-way point, however, the stop-start intensity and stillness we’ve become accustomed to evolves into a more melodic and gamer-like groove and song. The sentiments take the form of melodic loops, the music and performance appears to progress from uncertain and angst-driven to celebratory and colourful, and yet even so, the IGSHORT voice and this playful, uninhibited fusion of styles and sounds, remains unmistakable.
Then for the final fifth, we return to the haunting familiarity of the opening moments, only with a few distinct keys and bells and tones; effectively presenting a lingering sense of this being a dream sequence or something other-worldly.
IGSHORT consistently adopts this playful, retro and fearless approach to creativity. His music intertwines aspects of hip hop, dance, rock and songwriting, across a plethora of originals that forever prove impossible to pigeon-hole. The idea is to play freely with tempos, rhythms and tunes, whilst offloading a series of reflections and insights that essentially feel therapeutic as a form of escapism from the norm.
