From synth-wave to RnB soundscapes, HyenaXXL marks the rebranding of a creative producer intent on creating atmospheric, sultry and suggestive audio realms.
The new three-track release begins with the cinematic power and electronic buzz of Now Entering Erotic City, an opener that intrigues in both title and the rising anticipation of the mood. Think eighties synth-wave sounds and crisp vocal fragments as the intensity builds and builds, the beat later dropping in with an unexpected twist of funk.
Baby You’re a Star comes afterwards, similar production tones and panning but a whole new groove and sentiment to intrigue. The funky electronic aspect is nostalgic in a whole new way, and the vocal adds an anthemic hook to gift the song an unexpected floor-filler potential.
Attention to detail is intricate, but the overall sound is vast – full and immersive, loaded with vibrancy and as such presenting that same energy and excitement to the listener.
Unafraid of concept and creative freedom boldly intertwining, HyenaXXL maintains a seductive and intentional approach throughout all three tracks of this self-titled release. Slave To The Golden Touch exemplifies these qualities, the spoken intimacy and the funky electronic layers all subtly paying tribute to the likes of Prince; whilst creating a fun and recognisable style. It will be interesting to see the visual counterparts should they emerge, and indeed to hear where else the music will take HyenaXXL this year.
