Making sure to grab attention from the offset, Hayfield’s View The World sees a retro yet crisp and colourful soundscape rain down around listeners. A mighty riff, descending and perfectly in tune with the natural energy of the synths; these opening moments are immediately appealing, and fortunately – so is everything that follows.
This is undoubtedly a song to be experienced at volume. There’s an Empire of The Sun vibe on occasion, a slight hint of Brandon Flowers in the lead vocal, and a generally energizing, uplifting fusion of organic musicality and immersive EDM right the way through. It’s a pleasure to lose yourself within the music, having been invited from the offset, intrigued and entertained, then completely enveloped and embraced along the way.
In addition to all of this, contrast is well-utilised – the hook hits with impact thanks to subtle delicacy and vocal clarity paving the way. Furthermore, the lyrics offer a powerful and captivating thread of poetic observation mixed with personal emotion and honesty. This too presents a level of striking contrast – uncertainty and dreaming intertwine amidst this overwhelmingly positive and invigorating soundscape.
By the end, lines like I See So Clear resound in your head, and the authenticity and warmth of the whole piece gives the subsequent silence an uncomfortable coldness – prompting you to, hopefully, go back and press play again.
Beautiful, I can’t wait to hear more from these guys.
