LA’s evan huey creates a hypnotic ambiance with this new hip hop soundscape and song entitled Tuesday.
Blending looping vocals that consistently stick to a single melody, the track offers relentless lyricism, but it’s delivered in a quiet, intimate and barely audible way. The effect of this is that the whole thing works well as a late-night hit of escapism or calm just when you need it. And when you do catch a lyric every now and then, the story intrigues – this meandering plot of all that Tuesday means seems to emerge alongside fragments of personal emotion and reflection.
The track’s soundscape is refreshing to listen to, utilising a few dreamlike synth riffs and layers that rain down in a soothing fashion, as well as an equally easy-going yet still trap-inspired beat – the completed piece feels aptly contemporary yet true to its own late-night contemplation and mood.
Vocally the release showcases evan’s unique tone and delivery in a subtly recognisable way. It will be interesting to hear where else the music takes him in the coming months and years.
