Stunning atmospheric production blends rock, pop and electronic music, to elevate the uniquely canned vocals and rising brightness of Emotion 8‘s latest single Straight 2U.
Adopting something of a new-metal melodic fluidity and weight united, amidst a growing distortion and poetic reflections, Straight 2U feels like a nostalgic anthem in many ways, but the depth of its design, and the heartfelt story at its core, are quick to redirect things down a distinct contemporary road.
The second half of the track is something else entirely, fast-fingered power-chords and riffs meet with soaring ambient threads of electronic production – a wholly immersive arena of sound, rising and falling from metal to evocative space, all as we roll towards the impassioned crescendo of needing someone to ‘save me’.
This moment screams out with soulful conviction, and wraps up a genuinely great nu metal song, with perhaps the most intricate and impactful, multi-layered yet purposeful production I’ve heard all season. The song itself is well written and delivered, and the underlying sound-design helps take those natural strengths to even greater heights. No surprise then, that Emotion 8 are drawing in thousands of monthly listeners.
