Daddy Drwg - Wise Guys - Stereo Stickman

Daddy Drwg Wise Guys

-

Cardiff-based creative Daddy Drwg (Richard Proctor) gets the chemistry just right with this one. Following a dreamy acoustic riff through a softly pulsating ambiance, with short, harmonised vocals rising and falling like waves, Wise Guys is simple but distinct; unforgettable but in a calming fashion.

The song later rises through an indie-rock or alt-folk groove, which brightens and reinforces the central hook pretty perfectly.

Not embellishing its concept but keeping things snappy and vague, Wise Guys is alternative, unpredictable yet satisfying, and features a mellow breakdown that lets a few more lyrical insights shine light on the true inspiration for the song.

It’s impressively creative, in short, experimental but still built from those effective blocks that are known to connect. The topic is poignant on occasion, maybe painful, provocative – an interesting take on toxic masculinity – but the music keeps things light, airy and optimistic, and that clever juxtaposition is key.
