Having recently embarked upon a national US tour, Texas-based independent artist Hannah Jewel has brought to life The Jems Universe in a remarkable way. The Jems Universe is an animated series built around the original music of Creator Jewels, and Favourite Moments is the debut single from that world.
The song was written after Hannah graduated from college, only to face the inevitable cliff edge of adult life and the real world. It’s a song about the good things, with a nod to The Sound Of Music, but it’s also a song about introspection, ambition, the self and the comforts of nostalgia, and there’s plenty to unpack and connect with throughout the walls of this immersive and hypnotic listen.
Self-defined as a coming-of-age story told though live music, art and animation, The Jems Universe and Creator Jewels are distinct in both artistry and sound, and the music alone speaks volumes on behalf of that truth. Hannah’s voice is sublime, low-toned and meandering like alternative RnB, a touch of something Sia and Zero 7-esque to the style, even a dash of Amy to the peaks, and there’s plenty more music where Favourite Moments came from.
