Featuring a heavy use of retro vocal-play to inject the ever-popular auto-tune effect from the outset, Chad Nathan pairs melody and rap for a long-form outpouring that leads us through his new single Racing Against Time.
Making use of a fairly simplistic beat underneath the voice, the song emerges as something like a freestyle – complete with changing flows and vocal meanderings that follow no particular rule-set or industry standard; just the raw emotion of the song.
Given the heavy use of effects, the lyrics take a little more attention to get into, but certain familiar poetic bars stand tall – imagery, references to scene-setting alongside personal emotions and reflections on the story.
Coming in at just under the 2.5 minute mark, Racing Against Time makes use of the artistic space by vocal means for the most part. The production is its main recognisable trait, the effects having that balance between contemporary finishing and retro, early nineties sound-play. Underneath this you can still pick out the qualities of Chad’s voice though, which will hopefully stand tall throughout future releases.
