Polish duo BORDER impress intensely with their recent single Fading. Something of a nostalgic pop-punk effort with more punk-rock and grit than anything purely pop-inspired, the track features an immense rock set-up of distorted guitars and explosive drums, but counters and contrasts this brilliantly from one moment to the next.
That juxtaposition is key in letting the chorus of Fading drop in with absolute power – an earworm and an anthemic moment, with superb vocals and a strong long-form guitar riff to match.
The originality elevates the timeless style, and the songwriting is honest, vulnerable, passionate – the soundscape skilfully reflective of this – and the band are genuinely impressive. Their integrity stands tall, and Fading is a huge rock track – an absolute jam for the summer months, with a fiercely addictive hook.
