Storming through with a single that quickly moves from good to great as it progresses from hook to verse – an unusual transition, more commonly it’s the other way around – BODA’s California is contemporary, familiar in style, yet catchy and with a strong enough groove to quickly leave its mark.
Emerging complete with a stylish and well-shot set of visuals, California is a simple anthem for the summer-time. Granted, most of us can’t quite revel in the beach-side life or physical unity at this time, but songs like this help make staying in feel a little less isolating.
Well produced, simple yet effective in the way that much of modern hip hop and pop tends to be. The switch to the higher notes for the verse really kicks in a strong moment. Almost Lil Peep-inspired in passion, but notably more optimistic and bright overall.
