Continuing the climb for UK indie rock of late, Arms & Hearts is without doubt another act paving the way for the genre’s re-ignition.
The fourth single to cross our path is yet another anthem, heartfelt and interesting, built around the classic power-chord rhythm and raspy vocals, with a conscious and relatable but unique twist of intention to the writing.
Apologists takes on the process of holding people accountable for their actions – even when they’re someone you’re close to. It’s an empowering pop-rock single, organic and timeless in my view, satisfying but also original enough conceptually to start threading its own new pathway through the scene.
To then weave in the mighty Sink, England, Sink, is to begin to see the true breadth of poetic wonder and relevance that stands tall throughout the Arms & Hearts sound. The voice and musicianship were born to connect, so all that remained was the stories – the poignancy, the purpose, the originality – and all of this is here in strong supply.
Then there’s the musically distinct Binaries, a protest song in favour of contemporary societal changes and progression, and perhaps a completely unexpected edge of both open-mindedness and personal revelation; for this genre at least.
Arms & Hearts bridges the gap between real rock and real people, connecting with powerful songwriting and sublime, memorable anthems and hooks. A personal favourite rock act from the UK scene this year – great songs, great sounds, great energy. If you get the chance to catch a live show – don’t miss out.
