Anna Cole - Boom Boom Bang - Stereo Stickman

Anna Cole Boom Boom Bang

-

Stylishly blending the bounce of dancehall, with a Sia-inspired build-up and melodic embrace, Anna Cole’s new single Boom Boom Bang is as colourful and addictive as the title promises.

From a songwriting perspective, the progression throughout is everything it needs to be. This is classic pop writing, effective in drawing you in throughout the mellow verses and the rising anticipation of the pre-chorus. Then you get the drop to the hook, the beat ramps up a few gears, multiple layers of detail join forces with the sudden burst of enthusiasm in Anna’s vocal, and the moment helps quickly elevate the experience.

While the pop sensibilities are undeniably present, there’s an alternative, world-fusion vibe to the track, seeing it lean towards the somewhat less common sound of artists like Shakira. That Latin flavour brings further vibrancy and movement, helping the rhythm and optimism of the whole thing connect all the more strongly.

A welcomed change in direction for contemporary pop, and from the title, the hook, and the clear personality delivered by Anna, this is likely to be a song we’ll hear increasingly over the coming months.
