Angie and The Deserters - You - Stereo Stickman

Angie and The Deserters You

-

Angie and The Deserter’s song You, from the EP of the same name, is a genuinely lovely piece of music, woven in among a well written and emotionally honest bit of songwriting.

The structure of the song, melodically, has the simplicity of a classic country ballad. The effect of this is that each line and each idea really lingers in your mind once you’ve heard it. The key melody in particular really makes it’s mark. Again, the simplicity is noticeable, but the depth and the realness of the song is carried valiantly nonetheless – this is by the vocal performance, and the appropriately reflective nature of the instrumentation. There’s a musical warmth throughout, but there’s also plenty of space for the audience to move around in – to reflect on each line, to quickly learn and love that hook – and even when you put the songwriting to one side, the music has been beautifully performed. There’s a delicacy to the sound that really helps bring the true feeling of the song to life.

As a band, Angie and The Deserters are definitely one to check out. Their music has a wonderfully classic sound to it but with a fresh bit of musicianship, and a brilliantly skillful and passionate centre of songwriting. At times there’s a little bit of a Fleetwood Mac sound to the melody and the musicality. It’s genuinely enjoyable to listen to something inspired by such music but with it’s own array of originality fused in alongside. This particular song has both the heartfelt honesty of folk music and the uplifting warmth of Americana, perhaps even more beyond this, and the songwriting is, as mentioned, up there with the best of them. The EP You is undoubtedly one to watch out for.
