The contrast between delicacy and energy works brilliantly early on. This dance-kissed rhythm conjures up a sense of pace and movement, as does Andon’s long-form lyricism and melodic progression. Then there’s the softness of the tone, the simple repetition of that guitar loop – a little trip-hop-inspired by nature. These details work as one thanks to great chemistry and professionalism.
The whole thing is a stylish, emotive and heartfelt pop classic, which introduces Andon’s uniquely recognisable voice and level of subtle, seductive passion and confidence in a memorable way. Dashes of RnB meet with a pristine soundscape, resulting in a song with a simple and catchy resolve of a hook, and an easy-to-pin-point riff that gives the song an immediate sense of character. You only need to hear those opening couple of bars to know where you are.
