Nostalgic Dance-Pop production and a stunning vocal melody light up the songwriting space with a memorable kind of strength. Chicago’s Amanda Aponte balances the soulful emotion of performance with a few more surface level floor-filler quirks, for the stand-out single LIPSTICK LESBIAN.
Ultimately a dreamy dance classic, LIPSTICK LESBIAN notes hints of influence from dreampop and RnB, throughout its essentially unique mix and style. Amanda Aponte delivers a long-form melodic progression, which is met by alternative cascading vocal melodies in the outskirts, for an ethereal and uplifting journey; which seems to juxtapose the simple glamour and romanticised implications of the title.
It’s a fun song at its core, but the melody feels contemplative, even melancholic on occasion, before we shift into a rap and spelling segment to reground things amidst the pure party energy of the dance realm.
Great songwriting and vocals, a mighty hook and vocal identity – Amanda Aponte carves out an interesting stylistic lane with this release, and promises a uniquely timeless earworm at the same time. It will be interesting to hear where else the music takes things in the coming months.
