A. Wesley Chung Sunshine (You Know You Should)

-

Lush production and humble, distinct vocals lay down a strong foundation, as we fall into the groove and storytelling of a unique and established A. Wesley Chung.

Sunshine (You Know You Should) is a classic gem of a hit – unexpected enough to intrigue, satisfying enough to hold attention, and brilliantly catchy and uplifting at its peak.

This is structurally unorthodox territory, a complex but light arrangement of multiple instruments and design choices, a meandering melody, from the whispered to the impassioned and falsetto. All the while, the musical warmth and colour aptly reinforce the idea of Sunshine, and the lyrics take on the bigger job of exploring the parenthesis aspect of the title.

This song impresses all the more so with each revisit. Think of those unusual pop songs that just work brilliantly, yet feel a little left of the expected – Drinking in LA, Somebody That I Used to Know. The kind of indie pop song you wish you’d written, and in this case, it’s perfectly captured and produced. An easy must for the summer playlists.
