3Mind Blight Hard To Think About

-

Stripping things back to the bare essentials, 3Mind Blight’s latest single delves fearlessly into the topic of loss and the inevitable, often unbearable heartache that accompanies it.

Hard To Think About showcases 3Mind Blight’s unmistakable vocals at the forefront, with acoustic finger-picking and a marching beat subtly supporting them.

There’s a delicacy to it all, the voice is reverb-kissed and distant, hopeful in melody, resolving with a slightly more upbeat sentiment and sound but ultimately tackling the issue with clear intimacy and vulnerability.

Musically there’s a sudden brightness and optimism at the half-way point, to meet that of the lyrics – the moment ‘only in my dream’ resounds. It prompts a surreal change in direction, and effectively reinforces the love that is the driving force of the song.

Consider the following verse in contrast, the reference to regret, the last time, the fighting, and this brightness is given all the more purpose. Thoughts of heaven, of those we’ve lost now smiling down – there’s happiness intertwined with the ache of sadness. And all of this is beautifully poignant and a mighty, relatable exploration of the concept.

For those who’ve lost someone, this won’t be an easy listen, but at the same time – it offers some kind of solace and understanding; a sense of possibility, of light at the end of the tunnel.
