Hi Sara – thanks for the interview, and huge congrats for such a successful debut single! Tell us how this musical project all started for you?
Thank you so much for having me and for the support.
Growing up music played a major role in my life. I’ve always known that I was going to release music at some point, but the timing just wasn’t right. The stars finally aligned and I’m excited for this chapter.
What do you think it is about this song Playboys that connects with so many people?
We’ve all dealt with one playboy (or more) at some point. The song is just an empowering positive reminder to remember your worth. I think we all have those moments in a relationship where you just need a little reminder of who YOU ARE.
Is the song typical of the style you’ll be presenting with future releases?
I’m more of an R&B artist but I love all music & don’t want to limit myself.
“It is more important for me to be authentic. I have to really resonate with the message. I don’t see that ever changing.”
Was it your intention to go viral so quickly, and how do you think the bigger audience will impact your creative direction?
To be honest, Playboys was just how I was feeling at the time. Of course, you always want your music to perform well, but it is more important for me to be authentic. I have to really resonate with the message. I don’t see that ever changing.
How did you first connect with Grammy award-winning producer Andrew Balogh, and what was that creative process like?
My publicist at the time mentioned him to me and recommended we meet. I met him at a studio off Sunset. He was familiar with me from Shahs so we just chatted a bit about music among other things. He had me sing for him and the rest is history. He’s been managing me and really guiding me every step of the way. I’m very grateful for him.
How does the feeling differ between appearing as a singer and performer when compared to appearing in the TV series Shahs Of Sunset?
I feel fulfilled making music. It feels like me. I loved doing TV and that’s not off the table in the future for the right show.
What else can fans look forward to from you in the coming months?
More music this summer! I’ve been in the studio working a ton and I’m excited for people to hear the new sound.
