Chervice Interview

-

We caught up with singer and songwriter Chervice this week to talk about music, inspiration, and her plans for the future. Here’s how it went..

Hi Chervice, thank you so much for taking the time to talk to us.. Your songs have a greatly modern and electronic style to them, yet at the same time there is so much emotion in the words, and so much feeling in the way that you sing; it’s a very effective and quite striking combination. The songs Rebel and Fall come to mind in particular. Do you find that singing helps you to express and perhaps manage your own emotions?

Thank You! When I wrote Rebel that’s what I was going for. I wanted it to sound different than what you normally hear in today music. I was honestly was nervous in releasing it because it was so different. I didn’t know how anyone would take it. Fall is basically what I went through in my relationship. I write songs to express how I feel because I never was good at expressing them to people. Music helps me cope with what I’m dealing with in my life at the moment. Like my song Ask You I wrote that based off of what I was holding in and feeling for a long time. I even cried when I heard the final finish of my song. I felt every pain I was going through.

When you sit down to write a song, is it a planned writing session, or do you create as and when inspiration strikes?

Both, honestly! I can hear a beat and if it calls me I’ll start writing. I can write a full song in 10 minutes, sometimes less then that. What helps me? I picture what my video would look like and how everything will be played out and just start writing. It’s like seeing a live movie in my head and I have to write down what I’m watching. Lol.

You mention Brandy and Britney Spears as influential for you – what is it about these artists that separates them from the rest, in your opinion; what is it about their music that inspires you to create?

Well, Brandy always been a big part in my music. Her voice and sound is different to me. As a kid I tried to study everything she’d do to the point I caught myself moving like her. Lol. Her music is honest and truthful, something like me. Britney Spears gives me my edge of pop. She is one of the reasons why I love pop music. As a child I never really listened to R&B until I got older. Love the sounds of the 80’s pop music and Britney had the updated version of it.

There’s often a heavy touch of dance music to your songs – do your live performances incorporate any routines or visuals, or do you prefer to sing in a more intimate, perhaps smaller setting, where you can connect emotionally with your audience just using the words and the melodies?

To me, the bigger the better. Lol. That’s why I love Pop music. Everything is bright and full of energy and life. I always dreamed to have dancers behind me or beside me dancing while I’m performing. It just gets me amped. For an emotional performance? Yes! Definitely Solo. Just to give my fans all my emotions on how I’m feeling.

What’s coming up for you over the next few months – any exciting live shows, new projects, or collaborations, that listeners can look forward to?

I’m working on my first EP. I don’t have a date yet. I am collaborating with more artists coming very soon. They all will be posted on my fan page on Facebook or my personal page Chervice Belton on Facebook as well.

Is there anything else you’d like to let readers know about your music or your plans for 2017?

More music coming from me, filled with more life lessons and more about my personality. I’m hoping to work with more artists and just be happy and successful in what I do.
