As the mainstream platforms continue to push automatically generated slop, rest assured – there is a fierce and wonderful underground scene of artists, bands, musicians and producers, driving hard with those classic building blocks of practice, passion, and purity.
DownTown Mystic have long-since been a rock and roll force for a good, and their latest EP features the iconic rock’n’roll hall of fame rhythm section from Bruce Springsteen’s own legendary E Street Band. Drummer ‘Mighty’ Max Weinberg and bassist Garry Tallent join the line-up, to deliver a six-track collection of catchy grooves, anthems and hopeful refrains – beginning with the beautifully uplifting and thoughtfully provocative earworm Way To Know (Remix).
From soaring riffs to lush harmonies and an unforgettable chant of an outro, Way to Know kicks off this unmissable project with vibrancy and charm, and leads us well into the softer tones and reflections of a beautifully intimate and loving And You Know Why (Remix) – a personal favourite from an extensive catalogue.
These two songs hold closely to the precision and fluidity of DownTown Mystic – a longstanding cornerstone of indie rock and roll, with unmistakable and faultless, honest vocals at the forefront, and a fine blend of musical appeal and conceptual realism to match.
Next we get the EP’s leading single Hard Enough (remix), a track with a video that amassed well over half a million views in its first few months online. This upbeat rock jam is a snappy indie release with a twist of honky-tonk and country all carefully, subtly woven in.
We move from one song to the next noting hints of The Eagles, Bowie, and Springsteen himself, in everything from conviction to melody, concept to mood, focus to versatility. As Sometimes Wrong (1985) pours into view, a song remastered by the renowned producer Leon Zervos (of Pink and Crowded House fame), a whole new arena-ready brightness and bounce takes the wheel, with nostalgia gifted a crisp and captivating level of brightness and bravado, to let this introspective statement connect in a timeless way.
Finally, the project returns to the mellow roots of the second track, with a shoulder-swaying warmth emerging for the TV Mix instrumental take of And You Know Why – an hypnotically pleasant listen, which celebrates the musicianship and unity of this collaborative DownTown Mystic moment that is the peak creative brilliance of the band. Way To Know (TV Mix) follows suit, with a closing instrumental that’s euphoric and memorable for its riffs, passion, solos, and all round uplifting energy.
Founded by writer and producer Robert Allen, DownTown Mystic sought to give these classic tracks a fresh sound and showcase in the modern world, and that’s a task whole-heartedly achieved by the April 2026 release of On E Street (Remix). This is real music, real songwriting, and real band unity, all bringing to life a sense of escapism and engagement that’s fit to grace the airwaves and playlists of today, tomorrow, and the hopefully unstoppable future of live music.
“I was trying to develop as a solo artist when we made these recordings. The experience of playing with Max & Garry changed everything for me.” – Robert Allen.
