Blue Julius return, sooner than hoped, with songwriting superiority and faultless production, shining light upon a song that inherently seeks to do the same within a darkened world.
Promising a crisp acoustic guitar groove, live drums, and female vocals gorgeously harmonised, I Want The World achieves a style and tone somewhere between the likes of Jewel and Morcheeba – a breathy poetic lead, a hypnotic acoustic groove, and a level of conviction and relevance that’s subtly woven into an uplifting, colourful, creative embrace.
Inspired by the selfless journey of someone who has been hurt, had their heartbroken, but still feels a sense of possibility and hope – allowing any feelings of regret or anger to fall away – I Want The World celebrates the essential act of letting go; moving on from heartbreak and toxicity, and believing you’re worthy of better.
This inspiring and reflective ode to a better personal world is refreshing, and Blue Julius more than deliver on the musical vibes required to let that euphoric idea of self-love really take hold. The final fifth presents a psychedelic alt-folk instrumental outro that’s suddenly energised and awakening, and this follows the softness and intimacy of the song quite beautifully.
The band’s new vocalist brings something exciting and special to the set-up, and I Want The World is an outstanding opening take, from an act whose authenticity and talent consistently intertwine humanity, harmony, and heart.
