Toby Tune ELEMENTS OF SUBSTANCE

-

Music made for visual media, a careful combination of cinematic, classical and playful melodies and arrangements, built out of hybrid orchestral sounds and synths. Toby Tune captures a creative edge that’s artistic and intriguing, for ELEMENTS OF SUBSTANCE.

Seeking introduces us with familiarity an warmth, while About Time moves into something more rhythmically quirky, the layers building subtly and with unexpected nuance. Creativity is key, along with a clear understanding and deep knowledge of classical musical movements and phrases. And as we meet Dark Times, the style is suddenly modern, light rhythms and space, drawn out notes and quicker ones, all meeting for a unique dance in the dark.

Mallets is instantly intriguing, colourful and calming, playful and emerging as light rhythmic waves of young life. Then for Drifting, a kind of distorted sci-fi eighties aura takes precedence, and we see the true eclecticism of Toby Tunes the producer. This variation continues through the unexpected turns and tones of November and Hills Of Light, the latter perfectly in tune with the implications of its title.

Fourteen tracks in full make up ELEMENTS OF SUBSTANCE, with evocative moments of pure serenity offered by the likes of a mellow to celebratory and emotional Coming Home, and the following, equally euphoric Optimism – both works that you can easily visualise being central to the effects of film or other media.

Searching is old-school immersive again, balancing joy and inquisitiveness, for an almost Disney-like, family film aura. Then afterwards, Mando-Lin completely redirects things, in genre and style alike, for a smoky backstreet vibe that’s uniquely thought-provoking. This is followed by a clear sense of story and growing drama, as Wonderment is brief but impactful in its structural prowess.

At the penultimate moment, further drama and darkness, power and rising anticipation taking the reigns, for Strongman. And to finish, a welcomed dose of pure exhilaration, with acoustic medieval tones, voices, synths, and a long-form chord pattern and melody, lighting up the dance and journey of Waltz Mountain.

Based out of Costa Rica, Toby Tune has been making music since just twelve years of age. His talent is matched by his work ethic, and these in turn matched by his ambition, in reaching out to other media and visual art forms to amplify his music. Toby is a multi-contest winner, and his ability and confidence ring loudly throughout the colourful twists and turns of ELEMENTS OF SUBSTANCE.
